Written Evaluation.

-In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

After researching many different examples of conventional thriller openings, I found that most of these openings were very similar in the ways that they have been created and the messages that they our there to broadcast and promote the film. In making my Thriller opening I wanted to stretch conventions and making it different but understandable. To do this i have taken elements.

-how does does your media product represent particular social groups?

-What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

-Who would be the audience for your media product?

-how did you attract/address your audience?

During the making of the film i uploaded edited bits onto Facebook, to give the audience an in site on what the finished opening/film would look like, this then created a fan base towards the film.

-What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

when i started this task i wasnt very good at editing the footage, I had to learn how to use Final Cut Pro to its full capabilities, so i could get the most out of the effects and timeline cutting.

-looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Location Photography

This is the location that was used for the stairs scene. The light at the top makes it perfect to use and an industrial look makes it fit into the genre more than using normal house stairs.

Location Photography

This location shot, is taken from the location of the running scene, this location was used for its spooky colourings, it made it perfect to use for this scene... We also had full permission to use this field which made it alot easier to use.

Shooting Schedule

Schedule created: 9/12/09

Shooting of "running" Scene requires only a camera and a tripod and we will begin shooting from the first lesson of 11/12/09 This section will take the longest and will take the rest of this term to finish and as it it is the most substantial part of the opening it should be created with the most care. Scene location: fields of Fothergil Road Wem.

Shooting of "male" Cut in parts. Scene also only requires a camera and a tripod Shooting of this footage will start from the first lesson back in 2010. Scene location: train station Wem.

LOCATION FILMING !!!

Treatment 2:

My opening will start with a Low running camera moving through a field, pushing away the long grass as it moves through. Camera tilts up in a long sweeping movement as i want everything to be slow and over exaggerated, The camera is now giving a full establishing shot of the field, Then, from the corner of the camera the young woman who is running moves into the shot, The woman is running in her full dinner outfit she gets watchers wondering why she is running and why she is wearing that clothing in this surrounding. The music is very slow and misplaced the beat is half the pace of the runner. The camera will follow the woman through the field creating a "home" screen for the Opening, This will then be corrupted by the titles and credits but also the very quick flashes of her male counterpart, show the other side of this failed date, he is sitting at the train station waiting for his train though it comes and he does not get it, this shows that he is maybe not finished, angry with the current situation or he wants another chance, But every time it is cut to this is always reverts back to the "running" scene, to create familiar ground. To create good effects i would like to use filters to enhance the suns rays, to make the "running" scene seem more effective, bright and just, in all to give a positive atmosphere whereas the "male" scene will be made really dark to create as complete contrast and to give a darker, sinister effect, to signify rejection and hatred. I would also like to include handheld camera footage which is purposely mad to be shaky and amateurish. Most of the shots for the "running scene" will be done from the front of the character or from the side this means that they will all be big establishing shot. The "male" scene will be shot from the other side of the tracks so that when the train comes it can sweep past him also it means that it dismisses the need of good acting of curtain people because no close ups will be used. I think this opening should be ended abruptly almost cut and then the film start. :)

Aidans Media Treatment

Establishing shot of the woods where a party is taking place. The camera then jolts through the trees to the party where a group of young people are dancing and having fun whilst in the background a slight blur where a creature is darting through the trees. The camera still focusing on the party as the creature dashes closer through the trees towards the people. An extreme close up of one of the people’s eyes shows the panic as they spot the creature this unnerves the audience. a mid shot is used to show the teenager that points out the creature as it darts through the trees, this sends some of the kids into a riot whilst others are trying to calm the situation. a close up of the fire is used to show the rage and fury of the creature as we focus on the fire we see a blur in the background. we use a mid shot to show the oldest of the kids standing on the edge of the camp just in the lights edge attempting to calm the others down, at this point he is grabbed and dragged into the darkness, this sends the group into a panicked frenzy. all this is shown by the fast editing and fast pace music to emphasize the panic and fear. a final shot of the unlit woods shows the end of the party and the boys life, at this point the creature charges up to the camera and startles the audience and unnerves them, the camera then zooms into the creatures eyes into a black background where the title then darts to the camera.

Final Storyboard

Risk Assessment

We had fire in some of the old footage that we film, but we are not using it in our opening.

Treatment Idea 1

Plot

Set in Wem, A teenaged boy walks down the street with the feeling of being followed.

A silhouette appears in the corner of his eye.

He picks up his pace and starts to run down an ally way. ( lose ups of the feet with a mixture of mid shots, with the introduction of drum and string instruments to create atmosphere.)

Runs out of the ally way confused and scared, walks home to talk about what just happened in the ally way.

Mise en Scene

Busy Street to show commotion or a contrast with an empty street.

Dark ally way

Visual feel

Shaky camera for the running as if you were being chased, with an on board camera for the person being chased. To help the atmosphere and the feeling of the movie.

Continuity video

Problems that we faced.

Getting the film from camera to the computer was easy to do, but none of us had any idea of what to do next during the editing process because none of us has any experience in the editing process. The progress that we used was final cut express, which with some help from the teaching staff and fellow students, we were able to edit our film.

What went well.

The filming aspect of the continuity video was easier than editing because we kept on referring to the tory board, whilst tweaking to suit the feel of a particular part in the video.

Bourne Ultimatum Opening Review

The Bourne Ultimatum is the third instalment in the Bourne Series.

The Universal opening has string and drum instraments before and thing has started to create an atmosphere and the feel of what is about to come.

It starts with a close up on somebodies feet. The heavy breathing from this character makes the audience wunder why are they breathing heavily.

Then it goes into a mid shot of Jason Bourne, now reveling the person to the audience in who the feet and the breathing was coming from in the first place.

The camera follows Jason as a rugged mid shot as if we were following him or just a predestian in the street with him.

A train horn sounds and Bourne looks at the train station, but the camera follows Bourne in his action and pans to the station to show that is the place he needs to go to get away. When Bourne looks there the sound of police cars sounds in the distance, this tells the audience that he might be getting chased. So, the train is needed to get him away.

Another POV reverse as if your Bourne or someone else, this get the audience involed with the film.

When he enters the pharmacist the music tempo increases and turns into drums, this helps the feel of the section of the films genre and face pace thriller style.

Once the flash back is happening it in voles fast edits from one to another.
The camera is a mixture of POV, shaky shots as if your Bourne and experiencing it for yourself. The feel of this part is not very nice because its all blurred and distorted mixed in with fast edits and a mixture of shots.

Bournes heavy breathing throughout this piece dominates and any thing else that is going on through, this makes the audience uneasy on viewing it.

Fighting, between cop and Bourne the music id re-added, fast drums, but it stops as soon as Bourne holds the other police officer at gun point.

The camera keeps on Bourne and the cop, when the radio is asked for, the camera didn't go to Bournes foot when he crushes the radio.
The did that to create atmosphere and to keep the tension between the two characters and the question that we are thing, Will Bourne kill the officer? The introduction of string instruments at that time makes the situation uneasy to watch.

"My Argument is not with you" can be linked to the flash back of unanswered wuestion, that he has to find out.

The opening scene of the film sets the tone of what it about to come, with face pace editing, mixture of close ups and mid shots and the style of music that they used in scene to create the atmosphere and the suspense of the film.
